Fun Events for Social Studies Educators

MCSS hosted its first Social Studies Social in 2013 at the new Steele County History Center in Owatonna, and it was a great success! Participants enjoyed:
  • Two exhibits on display. "The Way We Worked," from the Smithsonian, and "Minnesota Homefront," from the Minnesota Historical Society.
  • Free beer and wine, generously donated by Schell's Brewing Company and Morgan Creek Winery.
  • Free appetizers.
  • Companion lessons to the two exhibits.
  • Social time and mingling with other social studies educators.
Most recently, MCSS co-hosted a social event with the Center for Social Studies Education. The event took place at the Forest History Center in Grand Rapids on Oct. 28, 2015. Special guest Robin Nelson discussed a new resource for teaching elementary students about Dakota and Ojibwe people.
